Supported Industries
While we feel that the application of digital signage will grow to eventually encompass the majority of commercial industries, there are some that have already experienced significant exposure to digital signage technology. We hope that by listing these industries here we are not limiting the potential growth of digital signage outside of these areas, instead we provide this information as a guide to our users with the purpose of inciting new ideas and applications.
Retail
Using digital signage in a retail environment offers features and benefits not available to static signage. With shop-front digital signage, store owners eliminate costs associated with print campaigns, can attract customers through digital media, and have the ability to immediately change promotions and specials. As the cost of digital signage becomes more feasible, it is anticipated that retail stores will adopt digital signage technologies in the near future.
Real Estate
The real estate market has been one of the early adopters of digital signage technology as agents quickly realised the benefits of using digital displays to showcase property listings. It is now common to see real estate agents with LCDs in portrait mode facing the street. In some instances touch solutions are used through the glass window allowing pedestrians to interact with the screen to navigate through available property.
Eateries and Restaurants
One of the more common applications of digital signage in eateries is the use of screens as menu-board displays. Such an application provides for better presented menus and permits staff to easily update menu listings and prices. Apart from introducing operational efficiency, displays are also used in waiting areas to reduce the perceived wait time before a table is arranged. Restaurateurs are quickly learning that having a screen that shows more than free-to-air television is a means of maximising the value of customers that walk through the door.
Academic and Education
Be Digital has always believed in the application of digital signage within the academic industry. Unlike other industries, the objectives for digital signage solutions in the educational system are often based in intangible benefits such as enhancing the campus experience and improving communication across campuses. This however, does not imply that there is less to gain, but rather that digital signage has a large role to play in internal communications and advertising outside the retail space. Institutions that are willing to engage new forms of digital media can now integrate digital signage with the social aspects of their learning environment.
Media and Advertising
As the industry known for trendsetting, media and advertising companies have been prompt to embrace digital signage, particularly in the form of interactive signage. With a creative application in mind, the media industry has already used digital interactive displays at bus stops and billboards around the CBD for multimedia campaigns tailored to viral marketing. Advertisers that wish for their brands to be associated with trendsetters are constantly on the lookout for new technologies and applications.
Corporate
Large organisations are turning towards digital signage as a method for internal communications across buildings and levels. As opposed to selling a product or service, the value of this service is derived from increased employee morale and greater publication of information. By integrating digital signage into existing systems some corporations are able to display information on key performance indicators, for example, creating a dynamic chart for sales targets that automatically updates when a sale is made.
